After being baptized and rededicating my life to Christ, my entire outlook changed. It became clear to me that our society has become so accustomed to things that are polluting our hearts and minds, that we don't even notice anymore. I found myself flipping through channels over and over again, trying to find something appropriate to watch. Those same shows that I had a tendency to like in the past, were now a complete turn off.
The Bible provides us with information to help guide us in all areas of life, including all forms of entertainment we partake in. No, I don't think TV is the devil. I'm not saying it's best to toss it out… let's not get crazy! What I do know is that the devil finds any opportunity to distract us from Jesus. And the more we focus on honoring God, the easier it is to weed out the bad stuff.
So, the next time you prop your feet up on the coffee table and are holding that remote, remember what you watch will have an impact on your life. Choose something that doesn't push you from Christ. Sure, there will be some people that think you're a prude and uncool in today's society. So what! Are you seeking the approval of man, or of God (Galatians 1:10)?
Bible verses that I found helpful:
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
1 Corinthians 10:31
It also says that whatever we say or do should be done to the glory of God
Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy,[a] drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
but test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.
