The LGBT Movement In America - What Are Christians To Do?

There is a major movement today in our society for everyone to have complete acceptance of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender lifestyles. We are constantly being bombarded with sexual perversion at an increasing rate. Obama has claimed same-sex marriage as a victory for America. The LGBT community has also been embraced in movies, television shows, as well as commercials.

As Christians, we know that this positive spin on sexual perversion is not the ways of God. We must look past a secular view and focus on a scriptural view. Pressure for us to accept the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender lifestyles will surely continue to rise. While we stand strong in the mist of this growing issues, we have to confront it with nothing short of compassion and kindness. Hate will never be the answer. Let all that you do be done in love (1 Corinthians 16:14).

Besides reaching out in love, we should continue to pray for those conflicted with perverse feelings about their gender idenity and sexuality. We may be mocked for our beliefs and attacked because of our faith in Christ, but we are a children of God. He is a shield to those who take refuge in him (Proverbs 30:5-6).

Below are some scriptures that I have found helpful when confronted with this issue:

Galatians 1:10 (NIV)
Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIRV)
God has breathed life into all Scripture. It is useful for teaching us what is true. It is useful for correcting our mistakes. It is useful for making our lives whole again. It is useful for training us to do what is right. By using Scripture, the servant of God can be completely prepared to do every good thing.

Philippians 2:15 (NIRV)
Then you will be pure and without blame. You will be children of God without fault among sinful and evil people. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.

Ephesians 5:1 (NIRV)
You are the children that God dearly loves. So follow his example.

1 Peter 5:8-11 (NIRV)

Be watchful and control yourselves. Your enemy the devil is like a roaring lion. He prowls around looking for someone to swallow up. Stand up to him. Remain strong in what you believe. You know that you are not alone in your suffering. The family of believers throughout the world is going through the same thing.

God always gives you all the grace you need. So you will only have to suffer for a little while. Then God himself will build you up again. He will make you strong and steady. And he has chosen you to share in his eternal glory because you belong to Christ. Give him the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Matthew 5:14 (NIRV)
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill can’t be hidden.

1 Corinthians 2:14 (NIV)
The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

1 Peter 4:8 (NIRV)
Most of all, love one another deeply. Love erases many sins by forgiving them.

Galatians 5:25 (NKJV)
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 3:19 (NIRV)
The wisdom of this world is foolish in God’s eyes.

1 Peter 2:11-12 (NIRV)
Dear friends, you are outsiders and those who wander in this world. So I’m asking you not to give in to your sinful desires. They fight against your soul. People who don’t believe might say you are doing wrong. But lead good lives among them. Then they will see your good deeds. And they will give glory to God on the day he comes to judge.

1 Corinthians 4:12-13 (NIRV)
When others curse us, we bless them. When we are attacked, we put up with it. When others say bad things about us, we answer with kind words.

Leviticus 18:22 (NIV)
Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.

Leviticus 20:13 (NIV)
If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

Genesis 1:27 (NKJV)
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Genesis 2:24 (NIV)
For this reason a man will leave his father and other and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

1 Peter 3:9 (NIRV)
Don’t pay back evil with evil. Don’t pay back unkind words with unkind words. Instead, pay back evil with kind words. This is what you have been chosen to do. You will receive a blessing by doing this.
